A beautifully drawn plan of this famous ship. In the late 1840's shipbuilders started to build a new kind of merchant vessel - the Clipper ship. It was designed to carry small, highly profitable cargo over long distances at high speeds. The masts could reach as high as a 20-storey building, and combined with the sharp bow and sleek narrow hull, the Clippers could 'clip' along covering up to 400 miles a day.
