Scrimshaw' is an ancient sailors' art form - the carving and staining of intricate patterns onto the polished teeth and bone of whales. Whaling is of course now banned, but this distinctive style is preserved through the invention of a man-made ivory substitute, which is difficult to distinguish from the real thing. The grace of this Chess set lies in its compactness. The board also serves as a lid, fitting snugly onto the box of 32 pieces, each 1" high.
Box measures 8 x 7 x 1.75".
